On July 2nd NATO Secretary General, Jens Stoltenberg visited Romania where he participated in the inauguration of the headquarters of the NATO Forces Integration Unit Romania (NFIU), a symbol of the Alliance’s new posture on the Eastern Flank.

In this context, he gave an exclusive interview to Adevarul where he emphasized that the headquarters that will be established in the country underline “the key role Romania is playing in NATO, especially in the Southeastern part of the Alliance.” During the interview, Stoltenberg reaffirmed that “any attack to any NATO ally is an attack on the whole alliance”.

In addition, although there is no “immediate threat against Romania or any other NATO country”, the Alliance is responding to a changed security environment by “increasing conventional readiness”. Related to the NATO response and to hybrid warfare, Stoltenberg highlighted that “it will be less or perhaps no warning time at all so we have to increase the readiness, preparedness of forces so we can take decisions faster and deploy forces faster.”
