Lately many strategy analysts, Generals and reporters have been talking about A2/AD or Anti Access Area Denial and we've featured a few articles involving A2/AD ourselves.
Former SACEUR General Philip Breedlove has stated that A2/AD is a big problem and that "Russia has developed a very strong A2/AD capability in the Black Sea."
The question is what exactly is A2/AD?
In truth, for a concept that has been around for thousands of years, it’s a complicated term to understand. What is area denial and who denies access to whom? Does the size of the army matter and how does this affect allies today? In the following short video we try to briefly explain A2/AD and show how this is relevant in today’s strategic environment.
